I do!!
Tomorrow is free hunting day so it would be a good time to take someone who has never hunted or that don’t get to go much.

Look forward to it every year. I'll only go a couple of times but enjoy it.

Used to, but not any more. I loved the challenge of using a .22, as using a shotgun was just too easy, and had no appeal to me.

Plus, I hated cleaning them; no one ate them; so I quit hunting them.

I use to love it, .22 was the only way to go! I don't like eating them though and use to give them away. I don't know who to give them to now. Seth goes and kills a few. He likes to clean them too and he will eat a few.

I use a .22 after the leaves get off. We used to keep squirrel dogs and beagles so rabbits and squirrels is what I grew up hunting.

We even talked about on Doug's radio show the other day about hunting with a .22 and he commented how dangerous it is now to hunt them shooting up with a .22. I use my old 12 but may grab my grandaddys 20 cause I don't play. I am going after my limit and it is hard to see them up in the tops of them scaly barks and sometimes I just shoot at tails or ears. Sometimes it ain't a squirrel

We eat'em! Fried, in dumplings and in stews.

I hate to clean em this time of year too but a good shady spot and a garden hose and it ain't to bad.

I got an old sling shot shaped beech tree I had my first deer stand in and have killed many a squirrel out of that I work my way to and carve the date in it to let'em know I made it one more year.

I won't go tomorrow but I'll pack the .22 on some camera checking trips and kill a few.

Appreciate the kind words Scott. The Boss has to go back to Parkwest. Infection has set in in her lower back. They have to go back in and take care of it. That's just what we need......another hospital bill!

Getting back to the topic of the thread. I still squirrel hunt alot, but mostly later in the year. Too hot and buggy for me right now.

Sorry to hear that. She is the third person on here that is dealing with back trouble right now. I sure hope it isn't something in the water.
I hope it goes well, we will be praying for you all.

I need to point something out about the "wolves" or bot fly larvae that can be found in squirrels during late summer and early fall.

A wildlife biologist friends of mine explained and showed me that the larvae encapsulate subcutaneously, but not in the muscle tissue. You can do several things rather than wasting good wild game.

(1) Skin the squirrel and in most cases the larvae will go with the hide.

(2) If the encapsulation is on a thigh or the shoulder, simply cut the affected limb off and use the remainder of the carcass.

(3) Eat the larvae along with the meat... It's just more protein!

Seriously, No. 1 and 2 are solutions. There's nothing wrong with the meat if you get rid of the bot fly larvae.
